The Flesch-Kincaid index is an indicator of how difficult a paragraph (in English) is to understand. It was first developed by researcher J. Peter Kincaid for the US Navy.
It was later adapted to test the “grade level” of a particular text, e.g. in technical documentation. Applied to educational contexts, it can help teachers choose suitable reading assignments for their students.
