Three main types of sentence simplification operations

Text simplification is the process of making a text more readable. In an effort to achieve higher readability on a syntactic and lexical level, these three main types of processing steps are often applied:

• Splitting

  • sequencing long sentences

• Deletion

  • remove lexical items with less “valuable” information

• Paraphrasing

  • reorder and rewrite sentence
