With information being accumulated in incredible dimensions, storing, organising and retrieving that data is one of the key issues to be solved in the 21st Century. (This is also the reason that I truly admire librarianship and archival studies.)
On a personal, corporal as well as societal level, this information overflow has to be managed. Each implementation of a management system will be unique to the situation it is created in, which could both mean that Knowledge management is always personal as well as that systems are unique.
